SFL Discouraged by Throne Speech
"We are discouraged by the fact that today's Throne Speech does not mention labour's participation in Enterprise Saskatchewan and makes no mention of the Labour Market Commission. We are looking for evidence that the government was serious about 'reaching out to labour' and we are seeing none," said SFL President Larry Hubich today.

National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women
Saskatchewan's labour central urged all Saskatchewan citizens to take time to commemorate the victims of the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique massacre this December 6th. Fourteen young women were shot and killed that day in cold blood.

Workers United on Political Action
Today almost 600 union members at the SFL Annual Convention resolved to challenge the Harper government's involvement in the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) with the United States and Mexico. Delegates pledged to continue the campaign against corporate-driven free trade agreements and schemes such as TILMA and the SPP.

SFL commends minimum wage increase announcement
Saskatchewan Federation of Labour President Larry Hubich commends the Minister of Labour's announcement regarding scheduled increases to the provincial minimum wage. The increases scheduled for January 1, 2008; May 1, 2008 and May 1, 2009 will see the minimum wage rise from the current rate of $7.95 per hour to $9.25 per hour effective May 1, 2009.

SFL Proud to be Union on Labour Day
More than 130 years ago Labour Day was created to honour the Ontario demonstrations of 1872. Marchers from 27 unions took to the streets and demanded that their brothers from the Toronto typographical union, who had struck for a nine-hour workday, be released from prision. Thousands of citizens flocked to the protests in support of the right to legally belong to a union.

Workplace Deaths are Preventable
April 28th marks the International Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job. Five workplace deaths occur on average every day across Canada, a number that has risen by 40% between 2000 and 2005.

NDP Government's Use of Scabs Reprehensible
