Saskatchewan's labour central will commemorate the victims of the 1989 Ecole Polytechnique massacre this December 6th.The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women was created when 14 young women were shot and killed that day simply because they were women.

SFL takes next step against Bills 5 and 6 at ILO
In an additional step in the defense of workers' human rights, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) has now delivered its arguments against Bills 5 and 6 to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC). The ITUC, the world's largest trade union federation, represents 166 million workers through its 309 affiliated organizations within 156 countries and territories.

SFL Files Support Complaint with the ILO
As Saskatchewan citizens were just beginning to enjoy their Labour Day long weekend, the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) and 21 provincial and national unions filed supporting documents with the United Nations tripartite agency, the International Labour Organization (ILO). They argue that the Sask. Party government's Bills 5 & 6 violate international laws to which Canada is signatory.

Unions take Government of Saskatchewan to court over LRB
Today the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL), the Saskatchewan Joint Board Retail, Wholesale, Department Store Union (SJBRWDSU), and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) filed a Notice of Motion at the Court of Queen's Bench to quash a recent Order-in-Council of the provincial government. The Notice cites the Attorney-General and the Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour.

SFL Requests Referral from the Premier on Bills 5 and 6
Yesterday the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour (SFL) asked Premier Brad Wall to refer Bills 5 and 6 to the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal for a determination as to the constitutionality of the Bills. The request was made pursuant to The Constitutional Questions Act of Saskatchewan.
