Brad Wall's pet union calls for a cut in minimum wage
The "so-called" union that has been invited by Brad Wall and Rob Norris to open up shop in Saskatchewan has submitted a brief to the Saskatchewan Minimum Wage Board calling for a cut in the minimum wage for workers under the age of 21.

Saskatchewan Nurse appointed to the ILO
Saskatchewan Union of Nurses member, Janice Cibart has been appointed as Canadian worker representative to the International Labour Organization's Committee on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work. The appointment was made through the Canadian Labour Congress and the Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions.

Workers honour May Day: the struggle for labour rights
Tomorrow is International Workers' Day, commonly known as May Day. May Day came into existence after the Haymarket Massacre in Chicago in 1886, when police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight-hour day, killing a dozen demonstrators.

Day of Mourning will be marked across the province
April 28, 2009 is the 25th anniversary of the founding of the International Day of Mourning for Workers Killed and Injured on the Job. Initiated by the labour movement through the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) in 1984, the day has taken on increased significance and is marked around the world.

SFL Reacts to Provincial Budget
The Saskatchewan Federation of Labour, speaking on behalf of 95,000 members and their families, was pleased to hear that the Province of Saskatchewan was able to balance the 2009-2010 provincial budget. However the SFL has concerns over the fact that post secondary tuitions will probably rise, funding for Station 20 West in Saskatoon was not reinstated; the need for an improved childcare system seemed to be ignored; pockets of poverty remain, and the issue of affordable housing was not adequately addressed. The infrastructure announcements were appreicated as was the anouncement of a new children's hospital in Saskatoon.

Sask. Party government goes after the trades
Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour, Rob Norris tabled amendments to the Construction Industry Labour Relations Act today. The changes will eliminate the requirements for sectoral bargaining in the construction industry.
