January 31, 2012 - SFL Calls on Provincial Government to Reject Harper Pension Cuts
Thousands of Saskatchewan people are concerned today about looming changes to Canada’s universal pension plan, specifically Old Age Security (OAS). Despite the nation’s strong economic position, especially in relation to the US and Europe, and despite the Harper Government’s fondness for dolling out tax breaks to corporations, the Prime Minister has indicated that he intends to make cuts to Canada’s highly-regarded pension program.
Every December 6th, since one tragic day in 1989 when 14 women were killed at the École Polytechnique in Montréal, Canadians come together both to remember those who were lost and to pledge action to end violence against women.
Working people across Saskatchewan were concerned today to learn that the provincial government’s plan for a new so-called “essential services” law includes taking a significant step backwards in terms of its scope.
