October 19, 2011 - SFL Officially Opens 56th Annual Convention in Saskatoon
Saskatchewan Federation of Labour President, Larry Hubich, officially opened the 56th Annual Convention of the SFL this morning with a stirring Presidential address. In front of an energetic crowd of over 500 delegates, Hubich spoke of the need of working people to continue the struggle for social and economic justice.
Today’s Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) report, which found that Saskatchewan is the fastest growing jurisdiction for temporary foreign workers in Canada, is the latest in a series of indicators showing that the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) has become a first resort of employers looking to drive down wages.
Late last week, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 529, which represents working people in the Saskatoon area and further north, filed an unfair labour practice application against employer Alliance Energy Industrial.
